Chapter Archives

The Roanoke Chapter NRHS has preserved a large amount of material and documentation relating to the N&W, Virginian and other railroads.

While we feel this is an important aspect of our organization, we also realized our limitations of space and personnel, and the overall need to best serve the material, and make it available to researchers and others.

To that end, we arranged to donate our archives, short of Chapter history specific material, to the Norfolk and Western Historical Society, who have a far better archive facility, and personnel to manage the collection.

The transfer occured in 2009. You can see more about the N&WHS by clicking on the link on our Contact page.

This is part of an ongoing effort to coordinate the local rail preservation efforts in the Roanoke area.
